What to Do (and Not Do) When Children Are Anxious

As someone who has struggled with intense anxiousness let me share a few tips and stories that will help you gain more insight into why your child may be feeling and/or doing and saying things that may not make sense to you as a parent.

Hopefully, this article will give you insight into some of the characteristics and symptoms of children that struggle with anxiety. Some of these symptoms you may notice early on, even a tough infancy, but most as they begin to grow and even as school begins, specific struggles may stand out.

Understand this most important information I am sharing with you. When you/your child struggles with anxiety, the thoughts in your head can be irrational thoughts, irrational behaviors. As an example, when I struggled with anxiety, which came out of nowhere – as an adult – I could not go to sleep at night because every night I thought I was going to die – totally irrational right?

Every night, my husband could not fall asleep before me (and I can be up until 2-3 every night) because he had to make sure I didn’t die. Here I am running a law firm, 30 people under me, and dealing with this craziness in my head that I knew was totally irrational. Keep in mind that our kids don’t know this is irrational, they only know that this is what they feel and is totally running their life. This is just one example.

Worry – does your child worry about everything? Things that are not even important and not something they should be worried about?

We have no control over our worry, only knowing that it exists. To a child, their worries are not whether they “should” or “should not” worry, its not even on their radar, its the feeling that exists in their mind and their body and they honestly have no control over these feelings – its part of anxiety. When dealing with it, reassure your child that all is okay, understand and respect that they have this feeling, as honestly, it is totally out of their control.

Instead of just saying its nothing you should worry about, or that its irrational – just let them know that you understand their concern, are listening and will take care of their needs.

Fears – Fears can also be something your child struggles with in the throws of anxiety. Fears of being alone, fears when you are going, fears at night, etc. Not like going to school and trying daily to stay home, not feeling well, hates school, etc. and there are some moms that actually have to drag their child in every day. That-is anxiety. As the anxiety begins to subside, their fears will as well.

Overactive Mind or Cannot shut off Their Brain. Is your child always thinking, even at night, just cannot shut off their brain. It could be rehashing the day, it could be worries going around and around, it can be anything.

Chaos – you won’t really see this with your eyes, but some people/kids are very sensitive to the energy around them. And being at school with much movement of people in hallways and strong energy around them can really affect kids that struggle in a negative way.

They need, even if you have never heard this before, energy protection-so all the strong energies around them do not infiltrate them.

Plant Medicine/Flower Remedies will help your child to get his body and mind back into balance, quickly and powerfully and bring him back to who he truly is without the anxiety!

Look at Boronia by Australian bush for the overactive mind, Daisy and Wild Pansy by Findhorn.

Many kids that really struggle with anxiety, sadness are also very intuitive and sensitive people. Many times anxiousness can run in the family be it parents, cousins, grandparents and as it moves down the family tree, I find it becomes more intense with each generation

These are just a few remedies, but to really help, and see changes quickly, read more on our site and set up a complimentary consult.  It would be my pleasure!
